Customs Inspector Jameel Kaker injured by firing of smugglers

QUETTA: Customs Inspector Jameel Kaker was injured by firing of smugglers who attacked on a customs check post.

Collector Ashraf Ali told Customs Today that he received information that an attempt to smuggle foreign origin goods will be made. He immediately directed all anti-smuggling squads to enhance checking of vehicles on main entry and exit points of the city.

He said that customs team intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration no: TAG-817 coming from Quetta but smugglers started firing on check post, adding that they tried to snatch the said Hino truck from customs team.

Ashraf said that during this clash Customs officer Jameel Kaker was severely injured by the firing of smugglers. He said that their companions blocked the main highway for at least four hours. Later on, customs staff with the support of FC and Levies cleared the road and the said Hino truck was taken into custody by customs authorities.

Collector Ashraf said that Inspector Jameel Kaker was shifted to hospital for treatment while after unloading the said truck, foreign origin goods like Indian pan parag, tyres, betel nuts, welding roads worth Rs20 million were recovered. They also seized documents of vehicle being used for smuggling.

He added that Customs and Levies authorities lodged an FIR against accused Nabi Bakhsh, Rasool Bakhah Pirkani and Ali Bakhah who were escaped from the place, he concluded.
