FBR Member WHT Mehmood Aslam urges officers to ensure vigilance on withholding agents

LAHORE: Collection of advance income tax, through withholding/collection at source, is the major contributing factor towards the achievement of revenue targets and FBR is aware of the optimum efficiency of the field monitors as well as the entities made agent of FBR, by the law.

As per details, Mehmood Aslam, Member Withholding, FBR, visited field offices on 19.11.2018, and held a meeting with Syed Nadeem Hussain Rizvi, Chief Commissioner Corporate RTO (CRTO), Lahore along with Dr. Shahid Siddique Bhatti, CIR, Dr. Afra Iqbal, CIR, Jamshed Fakhri Dahir, CIR, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad, CIR, Ms. Sumbal Agha, CIR, Muhammad Irfan, Additional Commissioner Headquarters CRTO.

Mehmood Aslam, while lauding the efforts of the workforce, stressed upon the senior managers of the CRTO to ensure that all Withholding Agents (WHAs) including government, semi-government, corporate and other taxpayer entities are correctly withholding/collecting the advance tax and the tax so withheld/collected is promptly deposited into government treasury. Member FBR Mehmood Aslam advised the management to match their collections, under various heads, with the national level figures and if any lacking behind by the RTO is observed in such comparison, they should find reasons for shortfall and take remedial action.

FBR Member also held separate meetings with Zonal Commissioners, Additional Commissioners and Unit Officers to discuss the revenue collection figures individually, implement quarterly Withholding Audit Plan and recover current and arrear demand raised through Withholding Audits and subsequent orders. The Member also sensitized some issues for added focus of the monitors including audits of housing societies and the non-filers of withholding statements, both in public and private sector.
