PESHAWAR: The import-export through Torkham border restarted after five days of closure due to protest by importers, Collector Customs Mohammad Saeed Jadoon confirmed on Monday. The protest was carried out by importers due to the lack of facilities available at Torkham Customs Station.
Sources informed Customs Today that a delegation of importers met with Collector Mohammad Saeed Jadoon. The Collector was apprised about the difficulties being faced by them at Torkham border. The collector assured importers that their demands will be met with first hand and strictly directed the authorities at Customs Station Torkham to look after the affairs of importers.
After meeting with the Collector, the importers announced to end the protests and mutual trade restarted between Pakistan & Afghanistan through Torkham border.
The delegation was led by President Pak-Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ziaullah Sarhadi along other importers and exporters associated with trade at Torkham border.
The importers while talking with Customs Today said that the mandatory clearance through WebOC services has created difficulties for which the importers demanded from customs authorities to provide the much-needed facilities.
The importers are facing problems to clear trucks at Torkham border for which special mechanism needs to be developed by customs staff.
The Collector told the importers that no discrimination has been done with importers at Torkham border by the implementation of WeBOC service as it has been termed mandatory at every corner of the border.
The Collector further said that WeBOC is the best service to meet the requirements of the international trading community. So the importers should adopt this facility while Customs authorities will try hard to fulfill the requirements of importers at Torkham border within available resources.
