Customs Court issues NBWs against suspect involved in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non-bailable warrants against absconding suspect Haji Sadiq, son of Muhammad Anwar, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty-paid 19950 kilograms betel nuts etc.

On November 29, 2018, investigation officer of Customs Preventive appeared before the court and informed that the suspect is still absconder and prosecution is trying its best for his arrest and he will be produced before the court when arrested.

According to the interim charge-sheet, on an actionable information that a Nissan trailer bearing registration no: TLN-996 loaded with container containing smuggled/non-duty-paid betel nuts is arriving from Multan to Karachi via Super Highway, team was intercepted said trailer and searched the same.

Investigation officer submitted that during the search, the team of customs department recovered 19950 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs5,180,750 and accused Muhammad Hanif and Munir Ahmed were asked to provide lawful documents; however, they failed the produce any lawful documents; therefore, they were arrested and goods also were taken into custody.

After the hearing, court accepted interim challan and directed him to complete investigations and submit final charge sheet on next date of hearing.
