NAB arrests SSP, eight cops

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested nine police officials, including a senior superintendent of police (SSP), on corruption charges.

According to a spokesman for the accountability watchdog, those arrested by a NAB team from Lahore include former Lahore City Traffic Officer Rai Ijaz. He was arrested in the Sharea Faisal area of Karachi where he is currently serving as SSP. He had allegedly committed corruption in police funds.

The spokesman alleged that the SSP had embezzled funds to the tune of Rs700m from 2014 to 2016. His father Rai Zameer, a retired police officer and former district police officer of Gujrat, is also wanted in a corruption case. NAB’s Lahore branch is conducting raids for his arrest.
