Multan I&I seizes huge quantity of betel nuts, welding rods worth Rs30m

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized huge quantity of betel nuts and welding rods which were covered under steel scrap.

Deputy Director Muhammad Khayal while talking with Customs Today said following the information shared by Director Rubab Sikander that an attempt to smuggled banned betel nuts will be made via Sadiqabad.

Khayal said that anti-smuggling squad established a secret nakabandi at GT road Sadiqabad and intercepted a truck which was coming from Quetta and heading towards Lahore. After impounding the truck loaded with contra banned smuggled goods, the staff of I&I Multan brought it to the premises of Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations. After checking, the staff recovered 19 tonnes of betel nuts and 12 cartons of welding rods.

He said that the seized smuggled goods were covered under two tonnes of steel scrap. The total value of seized goods and vehicle is Rs30 million. A case is registered and further investigations are still underway.
