ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization team seized huge quantity of non-customs paid goods and impounded five non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs28 million during different anti-smuggling operations on December 12 and arrested two persons.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary directed all anti-smuggling squad to adopt zero-tolerance policy against owners of non-duty paid goods and vehicles.
The anti-smuggling squad was constituted under the supervision of Deputy Collector Wajid Zaman which also includes Superintendent Abad Hussain, Inspector Farrukh Azeem Satti, Inspector Arshad Bin Anam and Inspector Junaid Khan. The squad established a check on GT Road and started checking vehicles.
The squad intercepted a vehicle and recovered 8,000 kilogram walnut beside offending vehicle being used for transportation worth Rs6 million, while Indian-origin red chili, shawls, cardamom, worth Rs7.5 million as well as 879 Afghan-origin smuggled tyres worth Rs7 million and also seized two non-duty paid (NDP) vehicles worth Rs8 million.
The Collector informed Customs Today that smuggled goods have been shifted at State Ware House while further investigation is under way and forwarded to Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) department for further orders.
