Customs court approves physical remand of suspect involved in injections & mobile phones smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Zeeshan Ali Awan son of Sikandar Ali to customs preventive lock-up on physical remand, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle 10,000 Boostin/Somatotropin injection and mobile phones.

On December 18, 2018, investigation officer of Customs Preventive produced the suspect before the court and informed that on credible information, the suspect was intercepted at International Arrival, JIAP, Karachi and the official recovered foreign origin hormones injections which induce cows to produce more milk.

He further submitted that one laptop, Samsung S8, Samsung S7 edge, Nokia 105, Samsung SM-G950F worth Rs30 million were also recovered from the suspect. He argued that prosecution needs further investigation from him, therefore, court may grant his physical remand.

After the hearing, court granted his physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) 16, 139 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses (8) (89) & (70) of Section 156(i) ibid read with baggage rules notified vide SRO-666(1)ibid and other related laws.
