Customs Court approves bail of suspects involved in smuggling of Iranian blankets

KARACHI: Customs court granted bail to suspects namely Hidayatullah son of Muhammad Kareem and Muhammad Hazrat son of Haji Muhammad Mir, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non/duty paid Iranian blankets, Iranian diesel, engine oil, foreign origin cigarettes.

On Jan 01, 2019, counsel for the accused filed bail petition and argued that they were falsely implicated in this case and they are ready to face trial and prosecution has not produced any single evidence, therefore, the court may grant them bail. After the hearing, the court granted bail and directed them to appear on the next date of hearing.

Earlier, investigation officer of the customs department produced the above-mentioned suspects before the court and informed that a team of customs department along with Shahbaz Rangers, Abdul Jabbar Shaheed Check Post intercepted a Hino coach bearing registration no: BSB-892.

He further stated that during the hearing, customs officials found Iranian blankets, Indian gutkha, Iranian HSD, engine oil UAE, Brahan engine oil UAE, engine oil UEA, Ajinomoto large, Ajinomoto small, tyres foreign origin, Benson, Business, Dunhill, Pine Light Ashima cigarettes, betel nuts and others contraband goods from the same. Total C&F value of recovered goods is Rs77,729,200 and total duty and taxes of recovered is Rs7,696,617.
