Customs Court approves bail of suspect in HSD smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspect namely Hashim Khan son of Hakeem Khan who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid High Speed Diesel (HSD).

On January 7, 2019, counsel for the accused filed bail petition and argued that his client is innocent and falsely implicated in this case, who is ready to face the trial, therefore, the court may grant his bail till final verdict in this case.

After the hearing, the court granted him bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed the suspect to appear before the court on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, spot information was received to the effect that a Hino tanker bearing registration no: QAE-9617, was moving on Mai Gari near Northern Bypass containing Iranian smuggled diesel in a water tanker. Pursuant to the said information, the ASO staff posted at Super Highway Choke Point intercepted the said water tanker and recovered 6000 liters High Speed Diesel during the search. The above-mentioned suspect was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, goods were taken into customs’ custody and suspect was also arrested.
