Customs Court approves bail of suspect in contraband goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved bail of suspect Attaullah son of Sardar, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband goods.

On January 21, 2019, counsel for the accused moved bail petition and argued that his client is innocent and falsely implicated in this case, who is ready to face trail, therefore, court may grant him bail till final judgment of this case.

After the hearing, court granted his bail against the surety of Rs1,00,000 and directed him to appear before the court on next date of hearing.

According to investigation officer on a actionable information, a team of customs officials intercepted a Hino truck and recovered 19250 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs3,850,000, whey powder 1711 kilograms worth Rs190,263, WAX granules foreign origin 4788 kilograms worth Rs885,157.

He further informed the court that during the search, suspect was asked to produce any lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, goods were taken into custody and suspect was also arrested by customs officials.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 for violation of Section 2 (s) 16 punishable under Section 156(1) (8) & (89) & 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 read with Section 3(1) 3 of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
