KARACHI: The Customs Court has dismissed bail petitions of suspects namely Abu Talib, Talha Abu Talib and Danish and sent back them to jail, who were book in a tax evasion and huni/ hawala case.
However, court granted bail to suspect Muhammad Nazir son of Abdul Qudus against the surety of Rs1,00,000 and issued notices to prosecutor for customs department and investigation officer.
On January 25, 2019, all above mentioned suspects appeared before the court along with their counsels, however, investigation officer was absent, therefore, court directed investigation officer to must appear on next date of hearing along with final challan.
Earlier, investigation officer had produced above mentioned suspects before the court and submitted that during the course of investigation, statement of prosecution witness Suleman Hafeez (clearing agent) was recorded who stated that he being clearing agent has cleared 255 consignments of M/s Globe Traders, details of 145 consignments has been secure whereas remaining details are being secured from Pakistan Customs authorities.
He further stated that M/s Globe Traders imported 145 consignments worth of more than Rs533.544.704 during 2016 to 2018 and an illegal channel of hundi/ hawala through Muhammad Nazeer.
He further disclosed that on 145 consignments, M/s Globe Traders paid duties and taxes to the tune of Rs122,047,083 whereas M/s Globe Traders evaded to the tune of Rs236,319,637, on the amount which was transferred through illegal channel of hundi/ hawala.
Investigation officer argued that it has been established that above mentioned suspects committed offences punishable under section 156 (14A) R/W Section 32A of customs act, 1969.
