ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) started crackdown against tax dodgers where at least 9% of tax dodgers are identified on the taxpayers list of the board, it is learnt here.

Official sources told Customs Today that FBR has formed strategy to dig out the tax dodgers who are present on the taxpayers list or those who are in the active taxpayers list but often entails deliberately misrepresenting the true state of their affairs to the tax authorities to reduce their tax liability and include dishonest tax reporting, such as declaring less income, profits or gains than the amounts actually earned, or overstate deductions.

Sources added that at least 9% of the taxpayers are identified as tax dodgers while tax experts also suggest criminal proceedings against these tax dodgers.

It is important to mention here that the board has only 3 million of taxpayers where 1.5 million of taxpayers are not regularly filing their tax returns while only 0.5 million are taxpayers who pay their real taxes. However, the board identified at least 9% of taxpayers as tax dodgers and it has started to take stern action against them.
