Multan I&I recovers coriander seeds worth Rs1.2m during operation

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized huge quantity of foreign origin coriander seeds worth Rs1.2 million loaded on a truck during their action.

Sources told Customs Today, that Deputy Director Khial Muhammad Khan received a tip off that a huge quantity of coriander seeds are being smuggled through Dera Ghazi Khan Multan route. He immediately constituted a team which comprised of Senior Intelligence Officer Qaswar Shah, Intelligence Inspector Muhammad Umer, Malik Muhammad Nasir and others to take action against coriander.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation teams started patrolling of different suspected routes to thwart any attempt of smuggling and closely monitored the coming goods in Multan.

During checking of different vehicles and their loaded goods customs Intelligence found that huge quantity of coriander seeds were concealed in different goods of transport goods company truck. Customs Intelligence staff de-stuffed the whole truck and recovered all coriander seeds which was placed with different goods.

Customs Intelligence staff asked the driver of goods transport company to produce the legal documents of coriander seeds for justifying its legal possession and they failed to produce any documents regarding legal possession of coriander seeds.

The net weight of the recovered seeds was almost 400 Kilograms and they packed in the different Polythene sacks. Customs Intelligence staff seized the recovered foreign Origin Coriander Seeds under Customs act 1969. The value of the seized coriander seeds was almost Rs1.2 million and involves duty taxes of almost Rs1 million. Further investigations are still under process regarding coriander seeds.
