Customs anti-smuggling squads should enhance patrolling to eradicate smuggling: Collector Asif Saeed

PESHAWAR: Collectorate of Customs newly posted Collector Asif Saeed Khan assumed the charge of his new responsibilities at Customs House and paid visit to memorial yard of Customs officials died while performing their duties.

The collector took charge of Customs House Peshawar yesterday along with Collector Appraisement Syed Ihsan Ali Shah.

They presided over a meeting with customs officials and directed anti-smuggling unit for increasing patrolling to eradicate smuggling of NDP goods and vehicles. Collector Asif Saeed Khan said that customs squad should increase activity to eradicate smuggling from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Collector Customs was informed by the staff about the actions taken to tackle down smugglers who are used to smuggle cloths, cosmetics and other NDP goods on daily basis from Karkhano market. The collector also informed about success of anti-smuggling units working all over the provinces 24/7. The collector told that women smugglers with the help of disabled people used to form gangs were completely eliminated by the Customs squad of Peshawar.

Deputy Collector Najeeb Anjum lauded the role of anti-smuggling unit KP upon which the collector appreciated the officials for better performance of their duty.

The collector while addressing the participants directed the deputy collectors and staff of Customs House to increase patrolling on Karkhano check post and GT road in order to stop smugglers to take NDP goods from the markets. The collector also directed to start crackdown operation against the smugglers.

The Collector Customs said that ‘to increase net revenue collection, we must have to show zero tolerance to smugglers and tax evaders. The Collector Customs said that Customs Department is looking to utilise all its resources to facilitate traders in the Province but the importers should also corporate with the government departments.

The Collector Customs said that the Torkham Customs Station is functional and further steps are needed to provide the missing equipment.
