I&I submits challan of contraband goods smuggling case

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation submitted interim charge sheet before customs court against suspects Ali Akber son of Muhammad Hanif and Kirishan son of Bamji Maisri, who were nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty contraband goods smuggling case.

On February 11, 2019, investigation officer submitted charge sheet and informed the court that on a credible information, customs team intercepted a dumper bearing registration no: TKW-932 and recovered 2040 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs1,530,000.

He submitted that suspects were asked to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, they were arrested and goods were seized by customs officials. He argued during the investigation, it is established that the accused persons have been found involved in smuggling of said goods and its subsequent transportation to the local markets at Karachi.

After the hearing, court accepted interim charge sheet and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit final charge sheet on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) 156 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 89 and 85 of section 156 (1) read with section 3 of import & export control act, 1950 and s. no 6 of part-I and s.no 221 of part-III of appendix-B of import policy order, 2016 as amended vide SRO-1067 (I0/2017, dated 20/10/2017, further read with section 3(i) and 3(iii) of the Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
