JOHOR BARU: Singaporean authorities have confirmed that a woman was killed in an accident involving a factory bus at the Tuas Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex earlier today.
The Singapore Immigration & Checkpoint Authority (ICA) said the woman was 35 years old, but did not reveal her nationality nor her name.
ICA also said the heavy vehicle lane, which was closed following the accident at 4.21am, was reopened at 10am.
Bernama had earlier reported that one person was killed and 16 others injured in the accident, which blocked other buses and lorries from entering the checkpoint at arrival.
Departure traffic was also affected due to buses and lorries being diverted back to Malaysia,” the ICA had said.
Meanwhile, the Straits Times reported that the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to a call for assistance at 4.25am to the accident site where a bus had crashed into the railings.
“A body was found and there were 16 other casualties conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and National University Hospital,” SCDF was quoted as saying.
It is understood that among those injured were the driver of the bus, while four others who only sustained minor injuries declined being sent to hospital.
Meanwhile, Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said state police have yet to receive any information from Singaporean authorities.
“I will ask the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department to check with them (Singaporean authorities) for more information,” he said.
