Apple issues automated security update to Mac for fixing OS X system

NEW YORK: Apple has issued an automated security update to its Mac computers for fixing a ‘critical security issue’ in the company’s OS X operating system.

The recently-released automated update by Apple is applicable to Mac computers running Yosemite 10.10.1.

According to report it is for the first time that Apple has released an automated update to the Macs. Prior to this, the company has mostly updated the operating system of the Macs after seeking the beforehand permission of the users.

About the automated update, Apple has revealed on a Support page on its website that the update essentially fixes a ‘critical’ bug in the software running the Network Time Protocol (NTP) service.  The flaw which has been updated by Apple potentially enabled hackers to control the machines remotely.

The security vulnerability fixed by Apple was made public on security bulletins released by the Department of Homeland Security and the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute. In issuing the automated updated to fix the flaw, Apple said that it felt that the flaw too dangerous to wait for users to patch.
