Multan Customs foils bid to smuggle foreign currency from MIA

MULTAN: Customs authorities deputed at Multan International Airport (MIA) foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign currency and arrested two passengers.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Ambreen Ahmad Tarar has directed Deputy Collector Saqib-ur-Rehman to tighten scrutiny at Multan International Airport to thwart any attempt of smuggling and money laundering.

Multan Customs enhanced the monitoring of the passengers good to avoid any smuggling and money laundering. Customs authorities received credible information that smuggling attempt from passenger could be done through Multan International Airport.

Staff deputed at the airport recovered 50,000 Saudi Riyals, United Arab Emirate Dirham and US dollars from passenger Muhammad Asghar who resident of Muzaffargarh Rohillahwali.

Customs teams recovered 44290 UAE Dirham and 1911 Saudi Riyals from other passenger who was identified as Muhammad Nawaz resident of Dera Ghazi Khan. Customs Inspector Muhammad Aslam, Inspector Jahangir Ali, Inspector Ghulam Muhammad, Inspector Farrukh Ghulam Abbas, Inspector Muhammad Iqbal and other done checking of both Passengers luggage and recovered foreign currency from their pockets at Multan International Airport.

Both accused have not filed any declaration form to declare their foreign currency and they were going to Sharjah through Pakistan Airline PK -293. Customs teams seized foreign currency and started investigations from them about smuggling.

Further investigations are still under process.
