Over Rs 25m mobile accessories stolen from Mughal Pura Dry Port

LAHORE: Over Rs 25 million mobile accessories, electronics and cosmetics have been stolen by customs clearing agents and police officials at the Mughalpur Dry Port, Customs sources said.

Sources told Customs Today that customs authorities have lodged a complaint and the police have started investigations.

After the incident, police arrested five accused including Constable Matiullah, Constable Nadeem, Customs clearing agents Kamran, Khalid Mehmood and Altaf.

The accused have stolen 64 cartons of mobile accessories, electronics and cosmetics worth Rs25 million.

The sources said that the police have recovered just Rs0.2 million stolen goods and are still investigating the accused to recover more goods.

It is necessary to mention here that after assuming the charge of Collector Appraisement Amjadur Rehman directed anti-smuggling squads to use all available resources to curb smuggling. He further directed to adopt zero tolerance policy towards smuggling.
