Customs busts smuggled betel nuts worth millions of rupees

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive ASO busted huge quantity of smuggled contraband items worth millions of rupees in a successful raid.

Customs Preventive office informed Customs Today that during the search of the vehicle the Customs team recovered 150 sacks filled with smuggled betel nuts weighing 2000 kilograms worth Rs33,85000 in the market.

On a tip-off by higher authorities, Deputy Collector Muhammad Faisal constituted a team to conduct raid over the received information.

The team of ASO under the supervision of Deputy Collector Headquarters Muhammad Faisal beefed up the surveillance and tightened the security at the entry and exit points of the city.

The staff of ASO in pursuance of actionable intelligence conducted a raid near Super Highway at truck bearing registration no KTA-092 which was fully loaded vegetables. The team of Customs carried out complete search of the said vehicle.

During the search the staff of the Customs Preventive ASO found betel nuts hidden in the sacs of the vegetables in huge quantity.

The truck no KTA-092 arrived from Balochistan and was entering Karachi where the smuggled betel nuts had to be sold out at different places. The case has been filed and further investigation is underway, added customs officer.
