NAB arrests real estate agent for over Rs1b graft

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday arrested a real estate agent, Mohammad Javed Makhdoom, who was wanted in a corruption case, said a statement.

“Mohammad Javed Makhdoom has been charged for conniving with the then minister for ports and shipping, Kamran Michael, to allot three commercial plots numbering COM-154, COM-157 & COM-158 located at prime locations of KPT Cooperative Housing Society, Mai Kolachi area allotted in names of three private persons against hefty bribe,” it said.

“He carried out role of middleman in this entire transaction and facilitated commission of crime and made millions in the process. The three precious plots of KPT Cooperative Society are worth Rs1.050 billion presently. A corruption reference with respect to 16 such plots was already filed by NAB Karachi.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan Rangers, Sindh on Thursday claimed to have arrested 11 suspected criminals, including a wanted suspect associated with one of criminal gangs operating in Lyari, from different areas of the city.

A statement issued by the paramilitary force said on an intelligence-based raid in a Garden locality within the remit of the Nabi Bux police station, the Rangers arrested a suspect associated with a criminal gang.
