Multan I&I seizes room air coolers worth Rs5m

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan seized huge quantity of foreign origin room air coolers smuggled from Sher Shah Toll Plaza.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Khial Muhammad Khan received tip off from their informer that huge quantity of foreign origin room air coolers will be smuggled. Deputy Director constituted special teams comprising Inspector Muhammad Haq Nawaz, Inspector Umer, Zulfiqar, Shakil-ur-Rehman and others to thwart any attempt of smuggling.

Customs Intelligence special team enhanced monitoring of different routes of Multan to intercept them at different points. Field Investigation Unit (FIU) impounded a suspected truck loaded with huge quantity of Iranian origin room air coolers. Customs Intelligence teams recovered 200 branded Iranian origin room air coolers from the truck.

Customs Intelligence staff asked the driver to produce documents regarding legal import of the recovered room air coolers. But driver of the truck failed to produce any legal documents and provided receipt to Customs Intelligence that they are transporting said room air coolers from Quetta to Faisalabad.

Customs Intelligence staff seized recovered room air coolers with truck amounting almost Rs.5 million. Customs teams seized room air coolers under Customs Act 1969. Further investigations are still underway.
