QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly Leader of Opposition Advocate Malik Sikandar said the human rights organisations should jointly work with the government institutions for protecting consumer rights in the province.
“The people of Balochistan are suffering as their rights are being violated in the society. Citizens are badly affected by price hike and political parties are doing nothing to provide them relief,” Sikandar said while speaking at a workshop organised by the metropolitan corporation on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day. He lamented that the basic rights of consumers are violated at every level of society. Sikandar accuses CM of being ‘negligent’
The opposition leader called upon all political parties to put aside their differences and work for providing relief to the people. Collective steps would be helpful in ensuring consumer rights and addressing persisting issues, he added.
On the occasion, Balochistan Union of Journalists President Ayub Tareen said that awareness should be created among people about consumer rights. He added that rights were being violated in every sector, including education.
Consumer Rights Commission of Pakistan’s representative Nadia Ali said: “The consumer’s act was passed 16 years ago but unfortunately the consumer courts are not established yet. This is the basic reason for the violation of consumer rights in Balochistan”.
All the political parties should play their vital role in establishing consumer courts in Balochistan, she stressed.
Social activist Zarghoona Barech, Nazar Barech, President of Trader Union Balochistan Abdul Rehim Kakar and others also spoke at the workshop.
