MULTAN: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling adjourned the hearing of a currency smuggling case against two accused until 1st April who were arrested from Multan International Airport in an attempt to smuggle foreign currency.
According to sources of Customs Today, Customs staff deputed at Multan International Airport recovered 97000 foreign currency including Saudi riyals, UAE dirham and US dollar from passenger Muhammad Asghar resident of Muzaffargarh Rohillahwali and Muhammad Nawaz resident of Dera Ghazi Khan.
Both accused were arrested by Multan Customs staff during routine checking of passengers in arrival lounge at the airport and recovered foreign currency from the pockets of both accused. Both accused were failed to produce any legal documents about recovered foreign currency and they have not declared their foreign currency at Multan Airport. They were going to Sharjah from Multan through Pakistan International Airlines PK-293.
Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) has lodged criminal case against them and both accused were booked in foreign currency smuggling case by detaining their passport along with foreign currency after initial investigation from them.
Accused were produced before the Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Judge after the expiry of 14 days Judicial remands where Customs Investigation and Prosecution informed court that they have completed investigation and Customs court has directed Multan Customs to submit challan of case in the court on next hearing.
The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Judge adjourned hearing of said case until 1st April 2019 and Customs Investigation & Prosecution branch will submit challan of currency smuggling case against accused.
