Jhang ASO seizes non duty paid ceramic tiles

JHANG: The Anti Smuggling Organization Jhang seized ceramic tiles worth Rs 33 million and also impounded Bedford truck worth Rs 4 million being used for smuggling.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Mirza Mubashir Baig on tip off directed the ASO team to conduct operation near Garh Mor district Jhang.

During the search operation customs officials intercepted Hino truck bearing registration no: TKX-935 and found ceramic tiles 2520 Sadra ceramic tiles and co made in Iran.

These tiles were being smuggled from Quetta to Labore via Jhang city. The owner of the items identified as Muhammad Ishaq was present on the spot but when he was asked to show legal documents of imported tiles he failed to produce any legal documents.

Now the accused appeared before ASO superintendent and submitted an affidavit in which he stated that he had no documentary evidence of legal import and lawful possession of the ceramic tiles and was ready to pay leviable duty and taxes.

Anti Smuggling Organization after registering a case against the owner of the ceramic tiles forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
