Customs ASO seizes huge quantity of Ajinomoto & fake watches in two separate raids

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized huge quantity of smuggled Chinese salt famously known as Ajinomoto (non-sodium glutamate) along with counterfeit / fake watches and glasses in two separate raids.

According to the details, on the credible information the staff of the ASO conducted a raid at a godown of Abdul Hasan Isphani Road and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

During the raids the team seized 1500 bags weighting thirty seven and five hundred kilograms of smuggled Chinese salt famously known as Ajinomoto (non-sodium glutamate) along with smuggled packing material worth Rs 9,025,000/-.

Ajinomoto is banned on the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan and IPO 2016 at serial No 45 of Appendix A, was inserted accordingly vide Notification No SRO 266(I) /2018 dated 28.2.2018. Three accused persons have also been arrested during successful raid whereas total tentative value of seized smuggled goods is to the tune of Rs. 9,025,000/-

On the other hand Customs Preventive ASO in compliance with IPR alert-1 on infringement of Intellectual Property Rights, issued by DG IPRE dated 19.3.2019, was alerted to thwart any attempt of smuggling of counterfeit/fake products.

The ASO team remained vigilant and during pursuant to a tip off that smuggled counterfeit / fake watches and glasses are being smuggled through Hazara Express train originated from Havelian, acted swiftly.

The team of ASO while checking the said train successfully seized assorted leading brands smuggled watches worth Rs2,242,800/- as well as smuggled counterfeit / fake reading and sun glasses 4490 pieces worth Rs224,500/-, watch parts 9000 pieces  along with 28 kilograms packing material.  Total tentative value of seized smuggled goods is to be of Rs2,473,312/- in the market.
