KARACHI: The Customs Court extended the physical remand of suspect namely Muhammad Israr son of Muhammad Yousaf and sent him back to customs lock-up, who was arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid and contraband gold.
On April 27, 2019, investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that during the investigation, suspect disclosed some important information and investigation team is working on this important information, therefore, prosecution needs further physical remand of above mentioned suspect.
After the hearing, court approved application for further physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, on an actionable information, he was intercepted an outgoing passenger holding Pakistani passport, who was leaving for Bangkok by Thai Airline’s Fight No TG-508 and during the search of his baggage $10,000, Thai 9840, Chinese Yuan 2481, Euro 500, Pakistani Rs31,000 were recovered with a total value estimated at Rs1,600,000.
Artifacts and jewelry weighing 1350 grams engraved with germs and stones including 1 gold crown, 1 bracelet with two rings, 1 bucket with human head shape, 1 waist belt with sea green stones, 2 golden plates with embossed figures, 6 golden locket, 1 rectangular box, 1 pair of earring, 1 peacock head box, 5 pipe shaped pieces, 1 karra (nechlace) broken pieces/ beads of gold, 4 unidentifiable gold articles, 18 kilograms of semi-precious died bead stones and sliver artifacts 236 grams (net) were also found.
He further informed that during the search, he was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to submit any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, goods were seized and he was also taken into custody.
