Customs I&I seizes smuggled goods worth Rs12641m till April

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized 60% extra smuggled goods and NDP vehicles till April 2019 as compared with same period of last year.

Talking with the Customs Today, the official spokesperson of DG Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Zahid Khokhar said that the Customs I&I seized Rs12641 million of smuggled goods during current FY2018-19 while it seized Rs 7885 million of goods during same past period. The Directorate seized 982 non-duty paid vehicles against 554 NDP vehicles seized during same period of last FY.

Sources said that I&I seized 384 offending vehicles (vehicles which carry smuggled goods) in current FY against 343 vehicles seized during same period of last FY. During current FY18-19, the I&I seized various smuggled goods like smuggled fabric 723121 yards, betel nuts 682,326 kgs, food grains 119209 kgs, smuggled foreign origin tea 53048 kgs, tyres 5794, 398 bottles of liquor, Rs 2.7 million foreign origin smuggled currency, 28230 kgs of timber and 32380 liters of petrol.

The sources further said that I&I seized 2525253 liters foreign origin smuggled diesel, 7493 liters mobil oil, 40573 dandas of fake foreign origin cigarettes, 170 carpets, 956 blankets, 351 cartons of crockery, 159,932 tin packs of Indian origin smuggled pan prag and 140 kgs cooking oil.
