Customs I&I impounds non-duty paid kerosene oil worth Rs40.56m

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&) has seized 245,140 kilogram foreign origin kerosene oil along with six oil tankers cleared in the garb of white spirit. The market value of the seized six consignments is Rs40.56 million.

According to sources, Director Wajid Ali received credible information that huge quantity of petroleum products are transported to Karachi. He immediately constituted anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Superintendent Ismail Shah which enhanced patrolling and detained six oil tankers at Hub River Road.

Letter issued by Superintendent Customs Dry Port (NLC) Quetta was also produced authorizing Hawaldar Muhammad Shafi of Customs Dry Port NLC, Quetta to escort seven vehicles of purported white spirit to Karachi. The seventh vehicle was parked near Wadh, Khuzdar due to fault.

Examination of the representative samples and subsequent report from the laboratory confirmed the goods to be kerosene oil, which can only be imported by approved oil marketing companies.
