KUWAIT CITY: Customs officers at Shuwaikh Port confiscated 14,800 bottles of ‘Red Label’ whisky and vodka worth KD1 million from a consignment that arrived at the port from Singapore. A Syrian expatriate who was waiting at the port for receiving the cargo was arrested.
Director of North ports Waleed Al-Nasser said one of the Customs officers, based on instructions from the Customs Director Khalid Al-Saif, checked a consignment of home appliances that arrived from Singapore and discovered 14,800 liquor bottles.
He revealed that a Syrian expatriate who was waiting to receive the cargo was arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution for investigations.

Director General of Customs Khalid Al-Saif said drug traffickers try to meet the demand of the local market by devising several techniques to smuggle the contraband, but customs men endeavor to thwart them.
He noted that officers at the land, air and sea ports in the country are geared up to frustrate the operations of drug traffickers due to severe economic and social consequences the contraband has on the society. He reiterated that customs officers exert tremendous efforts to intensify security checks at the points of entry to counteract drug smuggling.3kg ‘pot’ with expat: An expatriate was apprehended by anti-narcotics officers in possession of 3kg of marijuana. Sources said officers from the Drug Control General Department received a tip-off about the activities of an Asian who peddled in narcotics, and formed a team of detectives to bring the suspect to book. He was nailed near a cooperative society in possession of nine sachets of marijuana, after the officers had verified the information.
