Customs Preventive foils bid to smuggle ketamine worth Rs650m

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive team deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIA) foiled a bid to smuggle ketamine to Malaysia worth Rs650 million.

Sources told Customs Today that on 13.5.3019, Collector Preventive Ahmad Rauf received credible information about smuggling of narcotics through Allama Iqbal International Airport. He immediately constituted a team under the supervision of Additional Collector Tayyaba Kayani.

The customs team also included Assistant Collector Salman Javed and Superintendent Malik Javed. During checking of luggage of Qatar Airline flight they intercepted a parcel and recovered 275 kilograms ketamine tactfully concealed in a 450 kilograms food-stuff consignment destined for Malaysia via Qatar airline.

The parcel was booked by M/s IV Trading Company Lahore. Sources told that customs team detained the parcel and after registering FIR started further investigations.

It is pertinent to mention here that Additional Collector Tayyaba Kayani directed all anti-smuggling squad especially deputed at exit and entry points of the city to adopt zero tolerance policy towards smuggling. She directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt with iron hands.
