Multan I&I recovers huge quantity of auto parts & goods

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation recovered huge quantity of auto parts and other goods loaded on a truck under the garb of iron scrap worth Rs2.5 million.

According to details, Assistant Director Javed Raza received information from credible source that huge quantity of auto parts and other goods will be smuggled through jurisdiction. Assistant Director alerted his staff and formed special team comprising Inspector Syed Qaswar Shah and others to thwart the attempt. Customs Intelligence teams enhanced patrolling of different routes of Multan to intercept them by deputing staff at entry points.

Customs teams intercepted suspected Hino truck displaying registration number: LES/4252 loaded with iron scrap near Bahawalpur Bypass road during their patrolling. Said truck was loaded with huge quantity of used auto parts and different iron goods.

Truck was coming from Karachi and its final destination was Faisalabad. Driver of the truck was asked to produce import documents of recovered goods but driver informed Customs Intelligence that said goods are local items and they are purchased from local supplier of Karachi.

But Customs Intelligence team found that the huge quantity of used auto parts was placed under the iron scrap to deceive law enforcement teams. Customs Intelligence teams recovered auto parts in their examination and transpired that smuggling was taking place in the garb of transporting iron scrap.

Driver of the vehicle failed to present import documents to Customs Intelligence and Investigation staff and Customs teams took the said goods in their custody and seized said goods along with truck after framing seizure report. The net weight of the recovered Auto Parts and Iron scrap was almost 27900 Kilograms and its value was about Rs2.5 million. Further investigation against seized goods was underway.
