ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) reserved its judgment on maintainability of a petition challenging recent increase in prices of petroleum products by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani said every matter should not be dragged into the courts. He said it was not courts’ duty to set oil prices rather it was responsibility of department concerned.
The bench observed that the petitioner should have moved to relevant forum before filing this petition to IHC. The petitioner, in its plea, said oil prices were on the same stage at international market but OGRA had increased it in Pakistan which would lead to inflation.
He prayed the court to set aside the notification of OGRA, dated May 4, regarding increase in oil prices and restored the old prices. The bench, however, reserved its judgment after hearing arguments at large.
