Custom I&I recovers betel nuts worth millions during successful raid

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Anti-Smuggling Organization has busted huge quantity of smuggled contraband items worth millions of rupees in a successful raid.

According to the details, on the tip-off by Director General of Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Muhammad Zahid Khokhar, a team was constituted to conduct a raid in Sadiqabad over the received information.

The team of ASO under the supervision of In-charge Customs Intelligence Muhammad Akmal Hashmi beefed up the surveillance and tightened the security at the entry and exit points of the city.

The staff of Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) in pursuance of actionable intelligence checked several vehicles. During the search the customs officer intercepted a trailer no TLC-587 and asked the driver to provide legal documents which he failed to provide.

On suspicion the team of ASO conducted complete search of the said trailer no TLC-587 during which smuggled betel nuts were recovered.

In-charge Customs Intelligence Sadiqabad Muhammad Akmal Hashmi informed Custom Today that the bags of the betel nuts were kept under the Gypsum Stone loaded in the trailer. While removing the rocks the officer found several bags of smuggled betel nuts.

The trailer had to reach Karachi from Lahore and initially 220 bags of betel nuts worth millions of rupees were recovered. Driver namely Janat Khan was also arrested, added Muhammad Akmal Hashmi, In-charge Customs Intelligence Sadiqabad.
