KARACHI: The Customs Court extended physical remand of suspects namely Ali Baksh son of Paendy Khan Baloch and Muhammad Hamid son of Haji Jumma Khan and sent them back to customs department, who were involved in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 8410 kilograms betel nuts etc.
On June 03, 2019, court directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing, court also directed him to produce the above mentioned suspects before the court on next date of hearing without fail.
According to the first information report (FIR) on actionable information, customs team intercepted a Hino passenger bus “Sadabahar Coach” bearing registration no BSA-511 (Quetta) worth Rs4,000,000.
Investigation officer of customs preventive has submitted that during the checking, customs officials found crushed betel nuts 8410 kilograms, worth Rs1766100, 1000 packets containing Safia brand Indian origin gutkha 105000 pouches worth Rs2,100,000. 16 packets containing Rajnigandha brand gutkha containing 800 pouches worth Rs16,000, 150 tins of Rajnigandha Pan Masla (tobacco) worth Rs37500. Parachute cloth 250 rolls weighing 1581 kg worth Rs1067175. 61 rolls of Sofa cloth weighing 183 kg worth Rs123535 and 6 tyres constancy brand made in China worth Rs88200.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) (15) (16) of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
