Customs JIAP busts narcotics worth 10.77m

KARACHI: The staff of the Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) deputed at Customs Collectorate Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) has thwarted another smuggling attempt of narcotics worth Rs10.77 million to a foreign country.

According to the details, on a tip-off by higher authorities, the staff of the Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) posted at Customs Collectorate Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) beefed up the security as well as surveillance to turn down any attempt of smuggling.

During the strict checking, the Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) staff pursuing the information to the effect that narcotics would be smuggled to United Kingdom (UK) through a courier service, mounted vigilance and spotted a parcel of ladies hand bags.

The customs officer informed Custom Today that the parcel of ladies hand bags was booked by M/s DHL Courier Service to be shipped to Bradford, United Kingdom. The detailed examination of the said parcel was carried during which more than 1.75 kg of heroin powder was recovered.

The heroin powder was tactfully concealed in ladies hand bags, after its recovery the staff seized smuggled brown heroin powder. The tentative value of seized goods is estimated at Rs10.77 million in the market.

An FIR has been lodged against the arrested consignor to initiate investigations and to bust a gang involved behind this nefarious activity.
