ISLAMABAD: The accountability court on Tuesday granted the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) a 13-day physical remand for Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the Park Lane Company case.

The anti-corruption watchdog earlier on Tuesday sought an additional 14-day physical remand in the Park Lane Company case.

The PPP co-chair’s physical remand was extended by 11 days on June 21, after which he was supposed to be presented in the accountability court today.

The former president was arrested in the Park Lane case on July 1 — days after he withdrew his interim bail applications filed with the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Zardari was arrested by the anti-graft body earlier on June 10 in the fake accounts case.

Zardari withdrew his bail applications in the Park Lane Company, bulletproof cars and Toshakhana cases to a bench comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani himself after he sought the judges’ permission to speak in the court.

The PPP co-chair, during the hearing, maintained that while he had a team of capable lawyers and that he had faith in their abilities, there was no use of filing bail pleas as the NAB would implicate him in new cases
