Hyderabad I&I seizes huge quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs83.169m

HYDERABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation team seized huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled goods including high speed diesel Iranian, 47.615 kgs of smuggled betel nuts, 5 vehicles u/s 157(2), NDP tampered vehicles, 16,635 kgs of Iranian smuggled glassware (crockery), 94 sacks f/o tyres for vehicles, 1,549 dandas of cigarettes and 360 kgs of auto spare parts worth Rs 83.169 million during the different successful operations during first 10 days of July 2019.

Sources told Customs Today that on direction of Director Customs Intelligence & Investigation Dr Sadiqullah Khan, campaign against smuggled non-duty paid vehicles, goods and contraband items is underway with full zeal. The directorate of customs intelligence & investigation Hyderabad in various anti-smuggling operations recovered said above f/o smuggled non-duty paid vehicles and other goods.

In a separate case, in pursuance of credible information a team of the I&I Hyderabad, mounted  surveillance on national highway at Hyderabad and intercepted a suspected truck trailer bearing registration NO-522 near Chandan Mori district Matiyari headed towards Karachi. On cursory checking the container mounted on the vehicle was found stuffed with assorted Iranian crockery, the driver produced a bilty regarding crockery but could not produce any import documents. Further checking of the container revealed a false compartment inside the container by fabrication of a steel wall within the container. Thorough examination revealed a secret access to the false compartment from the roof top of the container.

The examination of the contents of the false compartment led to the recovery of 370 pp bags containing 11,050 kgs of smuggled betel nuts (grinded). The driver could not produce any documents either or reply satisfactorily in respect of smuggled betel nuts recovered from the secret compartment of the container. Details of recovered goods as follow worth Rs 8.8 million, 1229 cartons 16635 kgs of smuggled Iranian glassware crockery worth Rs3.3 million along with used for smuggling Hino trailer truck market value at Rs 5000000. The said Hino truck along with recovered smuggled glassware and betel nuts (grinded) seized under relevant provisions of the Customs Act 1969. The driver of the truck arrested and an FIR lodged against him for further investigation.

Sources told that during another operation, in pursuance of an information, the directorate of customs special intelligence and investigation unit Hyderabad team intercepted two Hino trucks bearing registration: no- TKS 620 and TKF -574 and seized in a joint operation conducted with the assistance of field intelligence unit Shahbaz Rangers near Kashmore.
