Peshawar Customs foils attempt to smuggle 225 cartons of cigarettes

PESHAWAR: The Customs Collectorate Preventive squad seized 225 cartons of contraband cigarette papers by following special directives of Collector Asif Saeed Khan Lughmani.

The estimated worth of smuggled cigarette papers is Rs30 million, sources told Customs Today.

Sources told that the contraband goods were seized along a Hino dumper bearing registration no 3184. Value of the seized contraband is estimated to be Rs23 million and that of the seized truck is Rs 7 million which was caught at Bara Qadeem.

The Customs Preventive team has arrested the accused Abdur Rauf and filed FIR under Customs Act for violating the proscribed regulations.

The collector has directed the squad of Customs Preventive that more efforts should be made to increase the revenue collection during current fiscal year.

Collector Asif Saeed Khan Lughmani has said that smuggling is a curse which causes huge loss to revenue collection for which effective steps need to be taken in order to eliminate the risk.
