Customs I&I detains non-duty paid goods imported by M/s Umer Electronics

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) detained foreign origin smuggled goods in crackdown on M/s Umer Electronic Islamabad and recovered multiple illegal imported goods worth Rs 8 million.

Abdul Maueed Kanju Deputy Director I&I Islamabad said that on pursuing the specific information shared by Zahid Kokhar DG I&I, a team of ASO I&I Islamabad was formed that launched a crackdown on premises of M/s Umer Electronics Islamabad where multiple smuggled goods were dumped. The I&I staff completed the said seizure with the help of Capital police.

He added that the Anti-Smuggling Squad of I&I detained above-smuggled goods under section 17 of the Customs Act 1969 while goods those recovered during crackdown were comprised 65 numbers of electric washing machines, 41 numbers of refrigerators, 03 numbers of Midas dish washer, 141 number of UHD TVs while also seized 02 numbers of WD12j842 washing machines. He added that all the above seized smuggled goods found were made by M/s Samsung, having estimated value of Rs 8 million whereas case has been forwarded to the law department for further investigation.

He said that the DG I&I appreciated the staff to conduct successful operation against the tax evaders, adding that the DG also asked anti-smuggling squads to enhance efforts to discourage the trends of smuggling for the sake of promotion of legal trade.
