Customs NIIA seizes foreign currency from Dubai bound passenger

ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs Air Freight Unit (AFU) Additional Collector Ashfaq Khan seized foreign currency equaling Rs3 million from a Dubai bound passenger.

According to details told by Additional Collector that pursuing the information of Seema Raza Bokhari Collector MCC Islamabad, the Customs staff of NIIA (New Islamabad International Airport) during checking of passengers of Dubai bound flight PK-211, a person namely Zakir Muhammad was intercepted and foreign currency worth 37,000 Saudi Riyals plus 37500 UAE Dirhams were recovered. He added that currency has been seized and person was also taken into custody.

Ashfaq Khan said that new tools have been used for identification of any illegal money transfers while all possible measures have been initiated to curb the money laundering activities. He further told that under guidance of Collector MCC Islamabad the NIIA staff seized huge quantity of smuggled gold while a suspect was arrested during last week whereas under the direction of Collector MCC vigilance has been enhanced at departure and arrival lounges whereas rummaging of airplanes is also on propriety list of Islamabad Customs.
