Quetta Customs confiscates smuggled goods near Sirana

QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs Preventive confiscated huge quantity of smuggled goods worth millions of rupees in a successful raid in Quetta.

According to the details, reacting over authentic information provided by the Chief Collector Customs Dr Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary, a team of Customs Preventive was constituted to conduct a raid in the areas of Sirana in Quetta against smuggling of contraband goods.

The team of customs beefed up the security and surveillance during which three trucks carrying goods were intercepted and complete search was carried out. The said trucks entered Quetta from the bordering area of neighboring country Afghanistan.

During the search the team of customs found huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts, cloths, tyres, blankets, Indian origin Gutka along with other contraband goods worth millions of rupees in the international market.

Before conducting the raid all the law enforcement agencies were taken on board to coup with any threat situation citing the case of the martyred Dr Abdul Qudoos Sheikh in which suspect retaliated with arms against the Customs raid.

The Customs team informed Custom Today that the value of recovered contraband goods is estimated at Rs50 million. The case has been filed and further investigations are underway.

It is worth mentioning here that after the incident of attack on Dr Abdul Qudoos Sheikh by smugglers, the Chief Collector Customs Dr Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary has directed the Collector Preventive Iftikhar Ahmed to carry out extensive campaign against smugglers and to curb the menace of smuggling which is the heinous crime posing billions of rupees loss to the country.
