No gas connections for unregistered consumers: FBR

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Syed Shabbar Zaidi has sent letters to the managing directors of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited wherein he has requested that consumers not present on active taxpayers list under Section 181A of Income Tax Ordinance-2001, may not be provided with commercial and industrial gas connections.

As per section 181A, “Any application for commercial or industrial connection, electricity or gas, shall not be processed and such connection shall not be provided unless the person applying for electricity or gas connection is registered.”

The FBR chairman stated in the letters that many users of commercial and industrial gas connections do not fall within the active taxpayers list of the FBR. He requested the gas companies to share the list of all those using industrial and commercial gas connections with FBR as soon as possible.

Moreover, he added, intimation may be issued by the companies to the users of such connections to comply with the aforesaid conditions laid down under the income tax law.
