Customs Preventive foils smuggling attempt at JIAP

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive team deputed Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) foils smuggling attempt at International Departures.

According to the details, on the tip of higher authority the staff deputed at the Collectorate Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) on suspicion intercepted two passengers at International Departure and inquired about the travel documents whereas conducted complete search of the luggage.

During the search of the said intercepted passengers at the International Departure of the Jinnah International Airport (JIAP), the staff of the Customs Collectorate (MCC) found several packets of the Pakistani currency notes.

The officer of the Customs Preventive informed Customs Today that the recovered Pakistani currency notes were concealed in cartons of a renowned packet milk provider. The recovered amount is said to be Rs1,000,000 by the Customs Preventive.

The intercepted two passengers are regular trippers who were trying to smuggle Pakistani currency notes in bulk to Bangkok, when their luggage was examined, Pakistani Currency to the tune of Rs. 1,000,000 was recovered, stated Custom Officer.

He further informed that as per State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Notification No. F.E. 1/2017-SB dated 30.8.2017, a passenger may take out Pakistani currency notes not exceeding in all Rs10,000 in value at one time.

An attempt of smuggling has been successfully foiled, which is indeed a new phenomenon of smuggling, the same is being investigated. Two passengers were arrested and an FIR under Customs Act, 1969 and Foreign Exchange Manual, lodged accordingly, whereas further investigations are underway, added Customs officers.
