Malaysian businesses remain upbeat in 3rd quarter: official survey

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian businesses remain optimistic on their business performance for the third quarter, according to an official survey disclosed on Thursday.

Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the confidence indicator for Malaysian businesses increased slightly in the third quarter to 3.1 percent as against to 2.8 percent recorded in preceding quarter.

Within the surveyed sectors, services sector continued as the most optimistic sector, with the confidence indicator recorded a growth of 11.5 percent in the third quarter.

Confidence indicator for Industry sector also rebounded to 0.7 percent in the third quarter, as compared to a negative growth of 6.7 percent reported in the previous quarter.

However, construction as well as wholesale and retail trade sectors demonstrated pessimism, where the confidence indicators registered negative growths of 12.8 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.
