Excise dept issues Rs 400m recovery notices to 78,000 property tax defaulters

SIALKOT: The Excise & Taxation Department has started issuing the final notices to recover Rs 400 million as property tax from more than 78,000 property tax defaulters in the Gujranwala region.

According to the senior officials of the E& T Department, there were 118,000 property taxpayers in the region, out of which only 40,000 taxpayers have yet deposited Rs 200 million as their property tax and 78000 people have not yet deposited their property tax, despite the 5 percent special concession announced by this department.

The officials added that E&T Department has yet served final recovery notice to 6,000 chronic property tax defaulters in the first phase , while such notices were also being to 10,000 other defaulters during the  second phase of this recovery campaign.

The officials revealed that now all the residential and commercial properties of these chronic defaulters would soon be sealed by the E& T Department in Gujranwala region. For this purpose, special recovery teams had already been formulated at district and tehsil levels in all the 29 circles led by local excise inspectors, which would start sealing the properties of the above-mentioned defaulters within the next couples of days.
