Faisalabad I&I seizes smuggled dry coconut worth Rs21m

FAISALABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated foreign origin dry coconut, 19688 kilograms, worth Rs 21 million during checking at Bhawana city.

Sources told Customs Today that on the directions of Deputy Director Rana Irfan Shouqat, Superintendent Muhammad Tahir iqbal constituted a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir to conduct checking near at Bhawana city.

The said intelligence officer along with his team intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration No TKA-344 and recovered foreign origin dry coconut 19688 kilograms packed in jute bags. When the team asked the driver of the vehicle who was identified as Umar Khan son of Baat Khan about the documents of the goods, he told that goods were loaded from Wana and same would be off-loaded at Ghall Mandi, Faisalabad. He produced a bilty no: 003 issued by Sitara Al Usman Goods Forwarding Agency, Sabzal Road, Quetta.  The driver also told name of the consignor as Haji Jamal from Quetta and consignee as Naveed Khan from Faisalabad. However, he failed to produce any documented evidence showing legal import or lawful purchase of the loaded goods, even bilty was not produced.

The Customs Intelligence team confiscated the dry coconut considering it smuggled one as no one could produce documents showing its legal import and shifted the coconut to customs store room.

Sources told that Customs Intelligence and Investigation team after registering a case started investigations.
