RAWALPINDI: While the nation cries hoarse over Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir, people continue consuming Indian goods giving boost to smuggling and illegal trade.
The demand for Indian dish channels and tobacco products is so high that Customs seized Rs70 million worth of Indian items in a single raid. Two trucks loaded with smuggled Indian cloth and other items were seized last weekend near Kalar Kahar interchange. Acting on a tip-off, Customs Rawalpindi raided a warehouse and seized Indian items worth Rs70 million in Dhok Hassu.
The raiding team was led by Customs Collector Seema Bukhari, who carried out the action in Dhok Hassu and recovered smuggled transit items including Indian made dish antennas and receivers and other electronic items.
However, the owner of the warehouse managed to escape before the team’s arrival. The customs department has registered a case against the suspect.
