93% of the value of Spanish fruit and vegetable exports came from the EU

According to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes, during the first seven months of 2019, the turnover generated by Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable exports stood at 8,673 million Euro, 8,035 of which corresponded to the EU market. This is 93% of the total and 4% more than in the same period of 2018. Exports outside the EU amounted to 638 million Euro; 21% more.

Within the EU, the countries that have contributed the most to the positive development of exports up until July this year have been Germany, where fruits and vegetables worth 2,301 million Euro were exported, 5% more than in the same period of the previous year, and the Netherlands, with a 5% growth, standing at 719 million Euro. Shipments to France and the United Kingdom, second and third market for Spanish fruits and vegetables, have stabilized in terms of value, with 1,485 million Euro in the case of France and 1,157 million Euro in the case of the United Kingdom.

Outside the EU, the value of Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable exports in the first seven months of the year stood at 638 million Euro, registering a growth of 21% compared to the same period of 2018. The main non-EU destinations are European: Switzerland and Norway, with exports worth 183 million Euro (+16%) and 65 million Euro (-6%), respectively. Outside Europe, the main destinations have been Brazil, with 54 million Euro (+76%), China, with 45 million Euro (+58%) and Canada, with 44.7 million Euro (+8%).
